Scott’s Law – “The Move Over” Law

FAMILY OWNED | FAMILY FOCUSED | FAMILY DRIVEN

Scott’s Law, the “Move Over” Law, was named in honor of Scott Gillen of the Chicago Fire Department who was struck and killed by an intoxicated driver while assisting at a crash on a Chicago Expressway. The law states that when approaching a stationary emergency vehicle, motorists must
1. Slow Down
2. Drive with Caution
3. Move to another lane or speed if changing lanes is unsafe
Scott’s Law is also good to practice when you see a funeral procession. It is common courtesy to respect grieving families who are making the final ride to lay their loved ones to rest.
