According to the NHTSA, the number of people killed by distracted driving went down to 2,858 in 2018 and then back up to 3,142 in 2019 (or 8.7 percent of all traffic fatalities in 2019). In both 2018 and 2019, just over 5,000 people were killed in large truck crashes. Less than 1,000 of those 5,000 were driving or riding in the large trucks (defined as commercial or non-commercial trucks with GVWR over 10,000 lbs)
